“Spiders” by Bruce Haack, 1968

The jam for all time

Did you know that Flaspar founder Co.D. helped to put out this rerelease on Mississippi Records??? That is what I heard

Inside of my coat hides a bright feathered head
handkerchiefed pocket his blanket and bed.
I unbutton my collar, but it is his house
and "please close the door!" shouts tufted titmouse.

------

birdie, birdie, why you yell?
your voice is cutie angry bell!
don't hollar so, I only wish
to treat you with this pleasing dish!

birdie, birdie, why you scream?
your voice is like the scary dream!
I hope my friendship to redeem
please join me in this cup of cream!

------

Chashka, chashka, Chiburashka
sneg i cir on pityet na Paskye.
Kot i mish, sobaka tozhye,
smotryut on sadyet na nozhye.

My own poetry in 2000… not too bad

Somewhere, far away out there, childhood sweetly sleeps,
Along the path among the trees,
There over that house
Which was once my pride and joy.
There my mother gave me birth into this world
So I could weep...
In the flame of candles by my bed,
I sleep
And once perhaps I'll understand
That I was such a little thing,
As little as this song.
These 30,000 souls who sleep
Among the trees will wake,
Open an eye
And because they see
A lot
They'll fall asleep again...

by Hanus Hachenburg, 1944 From “I never saw another butterfly”

The light tunes of casinos and beer-gardens, sung all over Europe by girls with sparkling eyes and swaying hips, had a significance for Kira that no one else ever attached to them. She heard in them a profound joy of life, so profound that it could be as light as a dancer’s feet. And because she worshipped joy, Kira seldom laughed and did not go to see comedies in theaters. And because she felt a profound rebellion against the weighty, the tragic, the solemn, Kira had a solemn reverence for those songs of defiant gaiety.

I only eat McDonald’s when I’m angry.
Heard it on the bus
Never forget … It’s all myth, math, and metaphor

Staring off into space with a blank look on your face is very cutting edge and avant-garde. It’s about circumventing your expectation of what a performer is supposed to do on stage. You think I’m going to entertain you with tons of charisma and stage presence, but that would be giving you what you want. My art is transgressive. I am not interested in placating your need for gratification. I want to upset you.

I remember Greg Mottola and the sound guy were in the back seat of the station wagon. I’m holding the clapper, the sun’s going down, and “Action.” I think we got it. It’s those moments that you remember. That’s what an independent movie is. It’s not something that’s easy. It’s that energy under pressure. People really collaborating and showing up for each other and really believing in the script, the director’s voice, and respecting that… It has an energy that’s really all about the work and being of service to the voice that you believe in. I love it.

Made a Flaspar music video w/ a green screen. I made all this fake blood, and fake goop…and we ended up getting close to naked and bathed in the blood and goop, and ate it from eachother’s mouths. It was pretty disgusting…. Pretty lame, but still fun at the same time.
Showed up late to our Riverside show, right as the first band was ending. Rebecca lost her voice right into the second song, and she continued to sing. She sounded like a gravelly death metal singer, and the more gnarly her voice got, the more gnarly our instruments sounded…but in such a good way. We got so heavy by the end of our set. Our one song ”Vanishing Point” was our last and it was heavy……we salute you BLACK SABBATH. We ended up playing an encore song - ”I saw my body dead”, and it was pretty tight ,trippy, and improvised.
Here’s what the critics are saying about this fine young persons’ musical group: “Lizard wave, Lizard .wav, NEW LOOK, DEEP punk, Ghost dub, house blast. 3 piece laser field. from light city, to rainland.” See? That’s what I’ve been trying top tell you guys all along. Those critics really know how to get it done.

Cody Smashes His Guitar (by Kelly Woessner, 2009

A few posts back, I waxed nostalgic on a Flaspar show. This video represents what was maybe the show after that. The action has been slowed down by a power of ten. We played a show at Holocene. We had gone through an “intense” cycle of practicing and touring that left us warped and blasted. It felt like the last show we were going to play together for a while. Well good thing Cody had the brilliant insight to just completely smash his treasured guitar at the end of the last song in the planned set list. Oh, I almost forgot the wildest part… he smashed it into the drums while Keil was playing. During all of this I like just sort of lay on top of the bass drum, kicking my black patent Ferragamo pumps into the air. It was really weird. Anyways this is a great video that Kelly Woessner made.
